Day #37 > SUNDAY 29th NOVEMBER
MUM COMES TO KL CHURCH! Whoop Whoop Hallelujah!
Mum was up & ready early & we leave at 8.00am & chat non-stop for the 1.5 hour journey. Church was great & she embraced it, especially considering how different it is to Trinity. We chatted & prayed with others after the service & had a wander around Morning Star & made our way back slowly including stopping off for an apple pie as Bob was cooking his Super Dooper Turkey, so wanted to embrace the occasion . . .
Arrived back around 2.30pm & Bob seemed a little stressed – tired – worn out – half-cut? Mum lasted about 10 minutes before spilling out that she was unhappy again . . .
Bob wasn’t able to deal with it & simply kept saying that he knew today Mum would have a problem but Mum kept saying the problem was that Bob would not stop drinking. She tried to get him to stop but he slithered around. He accused me of influencing Mum & insisted that Mum & I had been talking about him all the time. Mum tried to simply convey that she could not handle him drinking & Bob passed the buck to say that Mum had dementia. He said they needed to talk seriously without me. I suggested I leave, but Mum didn’t want me to.
Sigh. Why now he says? Why stop drinking now? This is the crux. Mum says because he’s got worse. Bob states he cannot guarantee he would ever guarantee giving up alcohol as he enjoys it. He’s nudging 80 for goodness sake & in terrible health, & Mum’s 77 & needs help – it’s not going to end well eh. They’re not spring chickens anymore & their body’s are failing now, so they simply can’t live the same lifestyle they used to. Alas Bob simply doesn’t grasp this.
Round & round in circles again for another 1.5 hours of our lives – Mum saying she can’t go on & Bob saying how’s it affecting you?!
Oh for goodness sake.
The turkey was done to a crisp & even if we could hear each other over the crunching no one had the inclination to talk.
I went to bed early, exasperated.
