Day #17 – On the Mend . . .

Day #17 > MONDAY 9th NOVEMBER

Morning walk good. Reminded Mum about her neck appointment & all good. Very good actually, but only a short walk today.

Mum had her 6-week neck check-up today at Lexington Spine Clinic. It went really well as she’s healing perfectly & the doc confirmed she’s 6 weeks through a 12-week healing plan. She must only take the neck brace off for eating & showering – the rest of the time it must remain in place. Mmm, great work Bob! We arranged a referral to ENT for her left ear, which still remains deaf since her fall. Mmm, great work Bob! She was happy & I ensured the doc told her exactly what she could & couldn’t do – 10lb maximum lifting weight limit – & recorded all to ensure no mix-ups & proof if required. Told Bob all, but he seemed more concerned about driving home the scenic way. Mum good. Bob not in the best place this morning.

Mum has itchy feet so goes to work in garden – I tell her pruning only (as before) but catch her with wheelbarrow & rake. Mention it to Bob in the same room, & ask him if he would like to do the honours. He says no, as he doesn’t have shoes on. Mmm. I say that’s not an acceptable answer or response Bob – you need to care for your wife. I go, take the rake & barrow & bollock her properly. She laughs but listens. 15 minutes later I do exactly the same, but remove the rake to a much more hidden spot than the shed, where I’d previously put it. Reminded Mum about the docs & the potential for a wheelchair or paralysis, although I know she doesn’t always retain it, at least it stops her in her tracks. I’m now seriously considering hiding all dangerous tools. She’s happy though, & apologetic when caught out. Sigh. Naughty schoolgirl . . .

I return to the house & tell Bob again that I’m not joking when I say he needs to up his game, as we’re only back from the docs for one hour & she’s already at risk. I need to see more if she’s going to be safe. I don’t wait for a response, as I probably wouldn’t hear it anyway – as I think I’m now going deaf to Bob’s tone . . .

It’s only 2.15pm!

Evening surprisingly quiet & Bob behaved himself for the rest of the day & evening! Nowt to report, good – a refreshing change.
