STEP 04 > SUNDAY 11th-THURSDAY 22nd OCTOBER
On the outskirts of Oistins, at the southern tip of Barbados & plonked right on the edge of the ocean & off the beaten track, I’d found myself in a perfect hideaway for 10 days until I’m officially allowed to enter the US of Yankidoodledandyness.
Could be worse eh.
I’ve bagged a very reasonable ocean-front apartment via Airbnb – it’s not 5-Star by any means but has everything I need, plus due to Covid I’m here alone, as the other three apartments in the block are vacant. Result.
I spend my days exploring the local area – on bus & foot – along with working in the ‘office’, cooking fresh fish & meat on the BBQ & generally recharging my batteries to prepare myself as much as I can before I hit Deweyland. If I’ve got to bide my time anywhere, this will do nicely.
Yes, I’ve been to this island before – although a long time ago now – & yes, it’s as beautiful as it looks. I’m here though solely because the flights were cheap & easy to get in & out to the US, but there’s much more to this place than meets the eye or you see in the glossy brochures; There’s a surprisingly small percentage of very rich or very poor inhabitants, as the majority of the population are working class & doing just fine; it has a very healthy economy but of course tourism has been hit hard by Covid, but society as a whole is God-fearing, incredibly friendly & tremendously warm. Including myself. Yep, could be much worse indeed . . .
